OSHA's Penalty Increase In Action

OSHA increased its maximum penalties for the first time in 25 years, beginning August 2, 2016. Repeat and willful violations now carry a maximum penalty of $124,709, up from $70,000.

On September 22, 2016 OSHA issued 4 citations to Carlson Enterprises, LLC of Jacksonville, FL, including two willful citations. The penalty for the willful lack of face and eye protection is $96,026, and the penalty for the willful lack of fall protection is $109,744, almost $40,000 higher than the previous maximum.

On September 28, 2016, OSHA also fined Wisconsin manufacturer R. Stresau Laboratory Inc. $85,512 for a willful lead exposure violation, up $15,000 from the prior maximum.
